It was an exciting weekend for the area basketball, wrestling and girls weightlifting teams. If you lost track, here is a roundup on how everyone did:
Girls basketball regional quarterfinals
Port Charlotte beat Lehigh 61-37, will host Barron-Collier (who beat Venice) on Tuesday.
Lemon Bay beat Cypress Lake 47-33, will host Cape Coral on Tuesday.
Boys basketball district finals
Charlotte beat Fort Myers 68-61, will host Martin County on Thursday in regional quarterfinals.
Port Charlotte beat Venice 57-30, will host Lehigh on Thursday. Venice will be at Naples.
Lemon Bay lost to Sebring 69-62, will be at Mariner on Thursday.
North Port lost to Palmetto 70-47, will be at Seminole on Thursday.
Wrestling regional tournaments
North Port qualified eight wrestlers for the Class 3A state tournament: Anthony Tripke (106 pounds), Alejandro Torres (113), John Cruz (132), Dacoda Flenard (138), David Towers (160), Josh Pollard (170), Roman Morales (182) and Marcus Kirkland* (195).
Charlotte qualified five wrestlers for the Class 2A state tournament: Matthew Gjerde (106), Dylan Mooney (126), Trey Hoff* (138), Brody Mansfield (152) and Bucky Dennis (heavyweight).
Lemon Bay qualified three wrestlers for the Class 1A state tournament: Jack Lipp (113), Bobby Caspolich (152) and Ryan Dodge* (160).
*Kirkland, Hoff and Dodge all won regional titles on Saturday.
The state tournaments will be held in Lakeland on Friday and Saturday.
Girls weightlifting state finals
Port Charlotte tied for third in the team standings and had four lifters win top-six medals: Noelle Anderson (second at 101 pounds), Milany Quiles (second at 110), Michelle Atherley (fourth at 139), and Kristy Lowe (sixth at unlimited).
Charlotte set a new school record with three medalists: Kerenn Frazile (fifth at 101), Breanna Jacobs (sixth at 101) and Melinda Vitale (fourth at 199)
Lemon Bay also had a medalist: Anna Fetzer (sixth at 119)
