Rays agree to deals with eight arbitration-eligible players

PORT CHARLOTTE — The Tampa Bay Rays agreed to deals with all eight of their arbitration-eligible players on Friday.

Right-hander Alex Cobb ($4 million), infielder Logan Forsythe ($1.1 million), designated hitter John Jaso ($3.175 million), outfielder Desmond Jennings ($3.1 million), right-hander Kevin Jepsen ($3.025 million), catcher Rene Rivera ($1.2 million) and left-hander Drew Smyly ($2.65 million) all agreed to one-year deals with the Rays, avoiding arbitration.

Former Tampa Bay pitcher David Price agreed to arbitration with the Detroit Tigers, receiving a record $19.75 million.

The Rays also announced the signings of five players to minor league contracts, all of whom will be invited to major league spring training: catcher Mayo Acosta, outfielder Joey Butler, infielder Juan Francisco, right-hander Jhan Marinez and left-hander Everett Teaford.
